SUMMARY:Business & Government Forum: Congestion\, Commerce and Concern
DESCRIPTION:hosted by Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce & Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce\n\n\n\nIn the MassDOT report entitled\, CONGESTION IN THE COMMONWEALTH\, released in August 2019\, the department was charged with identifying where\, why\, and when congestion occurs and to make recommendations for further study or pilot programs.\n\n\n\nKey findings of the study concluded that congestion exists in pockets across the Commonwealth\, but is generally worst on the roadways in and around Greater Boston. Additionally\, the report concluded that congestion is bad because the economy is good. \n\n\n\nMany roadways are now congested outside of peak periods with a significant increase between 2013 and 2018. Massachusetts has reached a tipping point and changes in travel time on an average day do not capture the severity of the problem with many commuting corridors now unreliable resulting in lengthy trips on bad days. Traffic congestion has reduced access to jobs.\n\n\n\nModerator:\n\nRobert D. Cox\, Managing Partner\, Bowditch & Dewey \n\n\n\nPanelists:\n\nCarolyn Dykema\, State Representative for the 8th Middlesex District \n\nHannah Kane\, State Representative for the 11th Worcester District \n\nSteve Poftak\, General Manager\, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority\n\nDavid Scorey\, General Manager & CEO\, Keolis Commuter Services\n\nBarry Lorion\, District Highway Director\, MassDOT\n\nScott Bosworth\, Undersecretary\, MassDOT
