Parking Control Officer
PARKING CONTROL OFFICER

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of Parking Control Officer for the Parking Division within the Transportation and Mobility Department. Under the direction of the Senior Parking Control Officer, the position will patrol an assigned area for the purpose of enforcing motor vehicle parking regulations for the City of Worcester. The Parking Control Officer will apply City parking regulations in a fair and consistent manner, and will require working outdoors in all weather conditions, on a year-round basis.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
- Maintain current knowledge of City of Worcester parking regulations.
- Monitor compliance with parking regulations and time limits.
- Enforce parking regulations and issue parking citations.
- Apply and remove vehicle immobilization devices (“Parking boot”).
- Timely communication with supervisor concerning enforcement issues, impediments, or other concerns.
- Record keeping and preparation of legible, accurate and sufficiently detailed reports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Working knowledge of Massachusetts and City of Worcester parking regulations.
- Ability to monitor compliance with parking regulations and time limits.
- Ability to use handheld devices and radio equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbal and in writing.
- Ability to interact in a fair and courteous manner with the public at all times.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in typical urban conditions.
- Ability to work outside and be exposed to all weather conditions.
- Ability to walk extensive daily foot patrols for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and install/remove vehicle immobilization devices weighing up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to consistently wear equipment weighing up to 10 lbs.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Experience using computers and mobile/handheld devices (e.g. – smart phone) to communicate and input/retrieve data.
- Excellent communication skills
- Post high-school education in criminal justice or related field
- One (1) year of prior experience with municipal parking enforcement
- Prior professional law/military experience
- One (1) year of prior experience delivering excellent customer service
SALARY RANGE: $21.09 - $25.38 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
