SUMMARY:Assistive Technology\, Websites and Apps for Family Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Working caregivers\, whether they are caring for someone in their own home\, living close by or long-distance need access to resources\, information and supports. This workshop will focus on informational websites\, Care Coordination "Apps" and different types of assistive technology which caregivers can access to assist them in their responsibilities.\n\n\n\nThe workshop will feature the following:\n\nCaregiver Education and Training Websites and YouTubes\n\nCare Coordination and Scheduling Apps\n\nMedication Management Apps and Medication Dispensing Devices\n\nMonitoring systems including GPS and Video Monitoring\n\nStress Relief for Caregivers: Forums\, Blogs\, On-line Support Groups and Meditation Apps\n\nComfort Companions and Music for the Care Recipient\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter: Laura Black Silver\, LICSW\n\nLaura Black Silver\, LICSW\, received her Masters of Social Work from Boston College. She has been the Caregiver Specialist with the Family Caregiver Program at Tri-Valley\, Inc. for the past 15 years.\n\n\n\nThe Family Caregiver Support Program is part of a national program which helps caregivers of older adults manage the personal\, social and economic challenges of caregiving. As the Caregiver Specialist\, Laura helps caregivers access information\, resources\, and supports. She consults with professionals on caregiver issues and provides community outreach and educational programs to support groups\, senior centers\, adult day health programs\, assisted living\, nursing home facilities and hospitals. Laura is trainer for evidenced based education programs for caregivers including Powerful Tools for Caregivers\, Savvy Caregiver and A Matter of Balance\, fall prevention.\n\n\n\nLaura works closely with the Central Massachusetts Family Caregiver Program team\, which consists of Tri-Valley\, Inc.\, Elder Services of Worcester Area\, Inc.\, Montachusett Home Care Co. and the Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging\, to publish a Caregiver's Guide\, now in its fourth addition. The team also developed an educational program "Social Media\, Digital Technology and Apps for Caregivers" which has been presented to numerous caregiver groups and to professional conferences including the Western New England College Spring Social Work Conference\, the Massachusetts Council on Aging conference\, and the Map through the Maze\, Alzheimer's Association annual conference.
