DESCRIPTION:Workforce Talent Pipeline - New Americans\n\n\n\nAcross the country companies are struggling to fill its workforce needs. Each year more and more people are reaching the age of retirement and there are gaps in the workforce pipeline. Along with a low unemployment rate\, the healthcare field has its challenge finding employees to fill these much-needed job openings.\n\nImmigrants today play a crucial role in the U.S. workforce. Although 17 percent of the overall workforce is foreign-born\, the healhcare industry are much more dependent on immigrant workers than others. \n\n\n\nWorcester and the surrounding towns are home to a very diverse population.  This diversity gives opportunity for employers use a new pipeline for talent.\n\n\n\nPlease join us in a discussion on how new Americans can help fill vacancies that are dire to the industry and how employers can help employees obatin work visas and a help with a path to citizenship.\n\n\n\nSpeakers:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLorie Martiska\n\nVice President of Advancement\n\nOpen Sky Community Services\n\n\n\nOpen Sky is the dba for the affiliation of Alternatives Unlimited and The Bridge of Central Mass. The agency provides services for people with mental health challenges\, developmental disabilities\, homelessness\, substance use disorders\, autism and other complex challenges.\n\n\n\nOpen Sky has 1300 employees and a budget of $82 million. \n\n\n\nLorie has served in the lead Advancement role at The Bridge of Central Mass and now Open Sky Community Services since 2012.  Prior to that she served as Vice President of Community Relations and Development for Heywood Hospital in Gardner\, a role she held for 24 years.  \n\nShe has a bachelor's degree in English from Fitchburg State University and a Master's in Communications from Simmons College. \n\n\n\nShe has played a  facilitation role ( along with Casey Burns) for the Mental Health work group for the\n\n\n\nHealthy Greater Worcester Coalition which is working to implement strategies to improve mental health through the Worcester Community Health Improvement Plan.  The Career Pipeline Project is an initiative of this group and the Mayor's Mental Health Task Force. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRichard Iandoli\, Esq.\n\nBusiness Immigration Attorney\n\nIandoli Desai & Cronin\, P.C.\n\n\n\nAttorney Richard Iandoli has practiced U.S. immigration law since 1977. Among his many accomplishments\, he has served as Past Chair of the New England Chapter\, American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA)\, a member of AILA Executive Committee from 1992- 1997\, and he is a past member of AILA National Board of Governors. Richard is a frequent lecturer on U.S. immigration matters\, and has led presentations for the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations\, the National Lawyers Guild\, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (nationally and locally)\, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE)\, Northeastern University\, Boston University\, Boston College and Harvard University Schools of Law\, the University of Massachusetts Medical Center\, and the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA).
