Healthcare Roundtable-Health Equity
We face a hurdle in addressing racial and gender disparities in care: we lack self-reported race/ethnicity and gender data for the vast majority of our employees. We need to better address this data deficit and become leaders in collecting comprehensive, gold-standard level data on race and gender and to measure disparities in care and use them to support and collaborate with providers to reduce racial and gender disparities in care.
At this Healthcare Roundtable we will dig into how gaining deeper insight into the impact of the race/ethnicity and genders of our workforce has on their experiences in healthcare. We want to define the role of dignity in healthcare, determine the role of the health insurer in providing an equitable experience and develop a structured qualitive data-gathering approach to enable us to see inequalities outside the narrow rage of our quantitative measures and design interventions to prevent inequities.
Being able to gain insight and working towards health equity for all of our workforce will garner a healthier and happier workplace.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will present their recent study and dive into their very own membership in hopes that other institutions will follow suit.
Deanna Fulp thrives on change. She has been a driving force behind strategic business programs and initiatives that have helped propel Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts into market segments, new technologies, and new ways of doing business.
Most recently joining the health plan’s efforts to increase health equity, she has served in the company’s Chief Operating Office, Finance, Business Consulting, Corporate Relations, and Supplier groups. In each role she has been handed a steep challenge—a transformative change initiative—and in each role she has delivered results that benefit the company, its customers, and the healthcare ecosystem.
Among the “firsts” and other notable achievements of her career are an accelerator program for health technology startups; an innovative Board Governance Program; pioneering technology developments, including iPad and mobile student consumer apps; entry into new market segmentation; and the first formal Supplier Diversity Program. While she is a change driver and sometimes disrupter, the hallmark of Deanna’s leadership is delivering value and meeting the strategic goals of the organization.
