This limited-capacity program takes place one hour before the museum opens to the public and is designed for individuals with autism and/or sensory sensitivities, and their families or caregivers. Guests can explore exhibits and participate in hands-on activities in a quieter and dedicated space.
To create a more comfortable sensory experience, exhibits with sound effects will be turned off or set to a very low volume whenever possible.
All guests will receive a paper wristband upon arrival at the gate. The wristband may be worn on the wrist, attached to a bag, or displayed in another visible location while visiting. Guests participating in the program may remain in the museum until 10:00 a.m. Those who wish to continue their visit after 10:00 a.m. are welcome to do so by visiting the Information Desk to upgrade to general admission. The cost of the Sensory-Friendly Hour admission ($5) will be applied toward the regular museum admission price.
