Event Name: Soil Management: Creating Healthy Gardens Event Date(s): Saturday, 6/12/2021, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM, 1 hour, 30 minutes Instructor: Reed Pugh Soil is quite literally the foundation from which your plants grow. During this workshop we will look at a soil test to understand the important factors to consider in managing the health of your soil: pH, % Organic Matter, Macro/Micro Nutrients, Cation Exchange and Lead. We will also look at some soils at Tower Hill and work with a variety of organic amendments, organic matter and mulch and discuss how we can manipulate soil to the benefit of your plants. It is suggested that you take the Online Webinar on Soil Testing (May 5th) or view the On-Demand recording prior to the workshop to gain a greater understanding of the topics to be discussed. Reed's first career was in Advertising in NYC, but after moving to San Francisco 25 years ago, he made a life-altering change and went back to school for Ornamental Horticulture. Over the years in San Francisco and Boston he has worked in multiple nurseries, had his own design, installation and maintenance businesses on both coasts, managed a 30 acre historic private estate in Brookline, and managed one of the top fine-gardening companies in New England. Reed has been a Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist(MCH). $30 Member Adult; $40 Adult (Registration includes admission to the Garden) Additional Program Information Please wear the appropriate attire for walking around the garden.
