And, when I saw the staggering statistic that 80% of entrepreneurs don't even have a business plan, my problem solving, engineering, geek mind took over and I had to ask the question: Why?   

 

So, Mike, do I really need a business plan? 
 

The simple answer is no (if you are ok with being average, comfortable with flat or dropping sales, enjoy playing the trial-and-error game of marketing mistakes, are cool with not having a clue how to manage cashflow, aimlessly hope your product or service will sell millions because your mom likes it, or enjoy getting crushed by day-to-day firefighting). 
 

Yes, that is sarcasm.?? 
 

Even if you have written a formal business plan (I have written and read many), just the thought of sitting down and trying to do it can strike fear into even the most seasoned entrepreneur.    

 

After a bit of research, I am now certain that most entrepreneurs don’t attempt to write a business plan because they either don’t think it is important or are filled with fear and intimidation.
