About the Panelists:
Frederick (Rick) Perro, MBA, MS, Senior Director of Data Management Services, UMass Medical School:
Mr. Perro has more than 30 years of experience in developing complex data-driven systems and software applications, including more than eight years of experience in the health care industry. As senior director, Mr. Perro is responsible for the development and delivery of technology, data analysis, and reports that are used for operational management, policy development, and research. He has led several high-profile projects for UMass, including work with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, the Massachusetts Medicaid Program (MassHealth), the Massachusetts Prescription Advantage Program, and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, among others. Prior to his role at UMass, Mr. Perro held several prestigious positions within the health care, semiconductor, financial, telecommunications, and electric power industries. Mr. Perro holds an M.B.A. in information management from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) and an M.S. in genetics from The Ohio State University.
Matthew Palfreman, Manager of Technology, PLM and R&D, Primetals:
Matthew has served as the head of Technology at Primetals since 2013. Prior to this, he worked at Morgan as a R&D Engineer and the Manager of R&D. His role at Primetals includes the following disciplines: Process technology , Roll Pass, mill calibration and Metallurgy (plant process definition); Research, Development and New product / process design ; Commissioning and operations during mill start up (management of a global team of engineers); and Product life cycle management for the equipment portfolio.
Joseph Durham, Manager of Research and Advanced Development at Amazon Robotics:
Joseph's team focuses on resource allocation algorithms, machine learning, and path planning for robotic warehouses. He also runs the Amazon Picking Challenge robotic manipulation contest. Joey joined Kiva Systems after completing his Ph.D. at the University of California at Santa Barbara in distributed coordination for teams of robots. He has been with the company through its acquisition and growth into Amazon Robotics. Previously he worked on path planning for autonomous vehicles at Stanford University for the DARPA Grand Challenge.
William (Bill) F. Jones, Jr., Director Smart Energy Solutions Program, National Grid:
Bill Jones is Director of the Smart Energy Solutions Program at National Grid. Bill is responsible for delivering the comprehensive smart grid pilot in Worcester, Massachusetts. The pilot program incorporates smart meters, advanced distribution automation, in home technology, dynamic pricing plans and demand response programs. In Bill’s more than 20 years of experience with National Grid, he has held a variety of leadership positions in performance and strategy, merger integration, information technology, global finance, electric operations and network strategy. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Babson College. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Bentley University.

Jay is passionate about helping clients maximize their potential. When he’s not working with Bluefin Technology Partner’s clients, Jay is actively involved with the local business, tech and education community, serving as a mentor in Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s (WPI) Tech Advisor Network, a Corporator at UFS Bancorp and as member of multiple Blackstone Valley school boards and committees. When not working you may catch him running, skiing, strumming the guitar or enjoying a cold beer while cheering on the local sports teams.
Mike Frysinger, Brillo & IoT, Google
Mike graduated from WPI in Computer Science. He has been a long time open source contributor to many many projects. He joined Google about 5 years ago and has worked on Chrome OS & Brillo/Android ever since.
